In the summer of 1612, twelve people from the villages around Pendle Hill in Lancashire were accused of witchcraft. Ten were tried at Lancaster and hanged; the eldest, Old Demdike — a blind widow and reputed cunning-woman said to have practised her craft for fifty years — died in prison before she ever reached the court.

This one imagines her as a broadside woodcut might have: cloaked and leaning on her stick beneath Pendle Hill and a full moon, a black cat at her shoulder and a hare at her feet, worked in midnight blue, bone and antique gold with only PENDLE and the year 1612 set in the cartouche.

A Halloween mug drawn from one of England's most famous witch trials — well suited to folklore readers, history lovers, witchy and gothic types, and anyone who takes their coffee with a little of the uncanny.
